Project: day 37: fashionable momma/ winter casual date night outfit, turned into popcorn night in(cooking it up)! After a day at work, going out just sounded like to much work! A night in sometimes is the best thing to do, this fashionable momma, was a tired momma!

• Difficulty rating (1=easiest, 5= way too hard!): 1
• Would I do it again?outfit: yes, it was cute, comfy and casual; plus I really love that color green! popcorn: no, I thought it was a weird combination of lemon an parmesan, didn’t quite work for us!
• What I would do differently: outfit: well, if I had those awesome Tory Burch boots, I would definitely be wearing those! popcorn: leave out the lemon and parmesan, and make Kettle Korn, my favorite! 😉
• Items used: outfit: Brass Plum green cardigan (Nordstrom’s), black James Jeans (Nordstrom’s), Ugg brown leather boots (Nordstrom’s), white ceramic Michael Kors watch (Nordstrom’s), Gorjana gold hoop earrings, Gap leopard print scarf (I just love scarfs in the winter!). • Difficulty rating (1=easiest, 5= way too hard!): 2
  • Would I do it again? yes, it tastes so good, you definitely cannot stop at one!
  • What I would do differently: according to the recipe it said to use semi-sweet, which we did, but unfortunately the white chocolate was the only one that set up and drizzled well, not sure why! Bigger strawberries would have been better as well, but hey, they still tasted really good 😉
  • Items used: Food Network Chocolate Covered Strawberry, 5-star recipe
  • Ingredients
    • 6 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
    • 3 ounces white chocolate, chopped
    • 1 pound strawberries with stems (about 20), washed and dried very well

    Directions

Put the semisweet and white chocolates into 2 separate heat-proof medium bowls. Fill 2 medium saucepans with a couple inches of water and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Turn off the heat; set the bowls of chocolate over the water to melt. Stir until smooth. (Alternatively, melt the chocolates in a microwave at half power, for 1 minute, stir and then heat for another minute or until melted.)

Once the chocolates are melted and smooth, remove from the heat. Line a sheet pan with parchment or waxed paper. Holding the strawberry by the stem, dip the fruit into the dark chocolate, lift and twist slightly, letting any excess chocolate fall back into the bowl. Set strawberries on the parchment paper. Repeat with the rest of the strawberries. Dip a fork in the white chocolate and drizzle the white chocolate over the dipped strawberries.

Set the strawberries aside until the chocolate sets, about 30 minutes.

  • Project: day 26: cooking it up/ Holiday Gouda Cheese Fondue, New Year‘s appetizer
  • Difficulty rating (1=easiest, 5= way too hard!): 1
  • Would I do it again? yes, it was a big hit, so yummy!
  • What I would do differently: we did not do the herbed crostini, but rather did vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, red bell peppers), salami, and crusty french bread.
  • Items used:

Gouda Cheese Fondu Recipe:

Ingredients

  • Fondue:
  • 1 lb. Gouda, cubed
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 cup white wine
  • ¼ cup cornstarch, enough to coat the cheese
  • Kosher or sea salt and cracked black pepper to taste
  • Grated nutmeg to taste
  • Shot of Tabasco (we used Cholula, our favorite!)
  • 2 tablespoons Kirsch or Sherry
  • Crostini:
  • ½ sourdough baguette
  • ¼ stick butter
  • ½ teaspoon granulated garlic
  • Fresh herbs of choice (basil, oregano, sage, rosemary)

Preparation

Fondue:

Smash the garlic cloves and rub inside of heavy saucepan; then discard the garlic.

Put saucepan on the stovetop over medium heat and add the white wine, scraping with a wooden spoon to dissolve the garlic residue. Toss the Gouda cubes in a small bowl with cornstarch, add the cheese to the saucepan and melt; stir to prevent scorching. When melted, add the tomato, basil, Kirsch or Sherry, nutmeg and Tabasco. Adjust seasoning to taste and serve with crostini.
